Why I love my 90 day challenge
Okay so I'm going to level with you I'm a promoter for the 90 day Challenge with Body by Vi. I know i bet you hadn't guessed that yet. Heck because this blog is a few days old you may not even know it or even care. Though something has been bugging me for a bit and I need to let it out.
I keep hearing from people that" whole foods is life long nutrition", or "you need to exercise in order to lose weight". How about the this " this is just a fad and unless you want to have shakes every day for the rest of your life, you'll just put the weight back on."
Whole food are great, yes but sometimes people need something else to kick start a healthy life. I eat whole food most of the time and we try to reduce preservatives and junk in our house. This means we don't have ready made cookie in packages. If we have chips usually it is corn tortillas. I make goodies and treats for my kids. Now I'm not perfect we have jell-o and pudding boxes but you know how often the kids get it... oh maybe once or twice a year. We don't have cheesy puffs or sugary cereals. I don't think my kids have ever had fruit loops. I limit hot dogs and processed lunch meats. We don't drink a lot of juice and usually keep it to water for a regular choice. I make choices for my families food because I believe healthy eating is a life long skill that is important. My fridge is filled with fruits and vegetables. My kids ask for fruit most of the time, they actually know too much sugar isn't good for them. They do know a level of self control, well sometimes, at least they know they need to eat fruits and veggies before they can have treats, or that they need a big glass of water before they can have juice.
No my reality is I have been struggling with my weight for awhile now. I have pretty much always been self conscious about my body. I think a lot of girls are. There is an ideal that we see that isn't real. It is a disease called perfection. Check out that blog post from another really awesome blogger. Seriously I have been following this guy for awhile he write some amazing stuff
This is my reality, ViSalus has worked for me, much better than anything else has. I have dropped some weight and I am feeling so great. I have energy and I want to get out and do things, which is a bit newer for me.This has given me so much in so many ways. Just because I use a shake to get there does not make me any less then people who use whole foods. You know what, I eat whole foods on top of my shake. I had been trying to do a shake a day for a long time with no success, actually backwards success.Yes I gained weight :( These shakes had various foods in them a lot of them were classified under green smoothies. I even tried doing the butter smoothie a friend of mine posted. Check that out here. Unfortunately for me they just weren't working, not sure why they weren't because they were working for my other friends but it just wasn't doing it for me. I was really beginning to feel like I would never lose the extra weight without hours and hours at the gym with costly membership fees and no time to get there without children. Yes i know there are the 24 hour fitness places but back to the cost thing.
I believe in life long nutrition and exercise but now with this vehicle I am finally getting there. I have the energy to actually get up and do something about my life. I have desire again. I want to look the way I want to feel. I know I have a vibrate personality and I love people but I have been so darn self conscious due to my weight issues that I have been having troubles letting it out. I'm tried of being the kinda heavy not sure if she is pregnant or not girl. I'm sick of it. So I found something that actually works for me and yes I promote it because I BELIEVE in it. Now you can hate all you want on it because it is not 100% natural, but you know what it is better than the stuff most people eat. To me this isn't some quick fix I know I need to get out and exercise more. This has given me health where my diet didn't. My minera and vitamin levels are up and leveled. I'm not as moody, I'm not depressed I love my life, I love my husband, I love my children, I love the 90 day challenge and I love all of you.
This here was my first 90 day challenge. I'm starting my second consecutive 90 day challenge and I'm going for more weight loss and more energy

Free Range Kids
Okay so here is my thoughts on the topic. This is what having free range children means to me.
Honestly I love the idea. Now for me I believe a good free range parent believes in safely for their children. We do helmets on bikes proper footwear when out in the parks. We have rules, very important rules.
1- You NEVER leave a place we are at without the person you came with. ( we do make exceptions for emergencies where if you need to go with a marked EMS person)
2- You DO NOT take things from strangers and if offered decline and check with parents. ( Mostly for safety reasons if someone is offering stuff to kids I want to know about, while it could be innocent it also may not be )
3- Use your brain and think about things before you do them. ( mostly this goes for them climbing on things because my boys are big time climbers )
4- Let Parent know where you are going to be.
Really pretty simple rules when we are out. Now my kids are still young so they really don't go anywhere with me being with them, but I usually watch from a distance. With the baby I usually am closer to them so that if they fall I can get them back up and dust them off and send them on their way again. I enjoy letting my children explore their world and learn their limitations.
Yes I'm that seemly uncaring mom who steps back and lets their kid go do what they desire on the park. Though if you actually watch me I am watching them and you. I give my kids lots of freedom but I also am smart about what we are doing. I know if you have been talking and playing with my children, while I may not be hovering over them, I know.
Yes lets be honest here I have three kids my eyes are not on all of them all the time but i do regular surveys of the area and I know where they are. I don't think my children even realize how much i watch them, just like you think I'm not watching my child. I believe children need to have a level of independence from their parents. Part of them gaining their independence, is being allowed to do things, experience life and make mistakes.
Now before you think i just let my kids run wild doing what they want let's get things straight. My kids are not wild little beings, at least when we are out, home can be a different matter. Hahaha! They know if they make errors in their choices ( fighting , not play friendly with others, intentionally excluding others, etc...) that there is a need to make things right. This is part of me watching and not hovering. I let them learn how to interact with the world around them without my constant guidance. Mommy is watching though, and inappropriate behavior is not accepted. I figure by allowing them to learn how to interact with others while they are young with mommy watching from a distance, they will know how to do it as they get older and mommy is not watching. There is also a time and place for running around and climbing all over the place. the park is a good place the store is not. I am not one of those moms who let their kids just run free in stores. they must stay within a close distance to me. We are talking like 2ft, and our hands are kept to ourselves.
So you know what I may not be a true blue free range parents but that is what shakin' it up is all about. I take what works for us and leave the rest behind.

Good food = Happy Kids
Okay so here is mama life. It's busy, yes very busy. With three children under 6, things can get a little bit hairy around here. I'm a pretty easy going mom, my house is not perfectly clean but it is tidy..... some days. Really depends on the point of the day you look at it. Right now it isn't too bad there are a few things on the floor and there is laundry to do. I do make time for important things and usually that is cooking for my kids. Now the fantasy I have in my head is where we eat all organic food, fresh from sources including milk. I also bake all our bread products with freshly ground flour from the local organic grain store thingy. It is a really is a pretty world in my head, almost in a 50's style living, you know the "simpler times" idea from TV.
I love aprons I really would love to get one
Now lets talk reality. Organic is expensive, and you need to be careful with green washing. Personally I rather know that my food had chemicals then think it was organic and find out I had been lied to. I really try to have the best food I can manage for my kids. I'm so fortunate the they are all good eaters, and not picky. Generally they eat whatever it is that i make for them. So we make do with what we have and that means weekly trips to the local fresh vegetable store. I like to go to the smaller places instead of the big box store. I personally find better quality fruits and vegetables there. Also I try and hit up the farmers markets when they are going on to help support the local farmers because they are the ones who really need some love. My kids like going to the farmers markets, there is always lots going on but I think they like the samples best. Heck that is why they want to go to Costco every single time we drive by. I diverge though, good food makes for happy kids. Yes I'm sure my kids would love to gorge themselves on fast food and candy but I know what would happen after that and I just, just don't like going there. So for us real food, good food is what we try and keep in our house. Now still in that reality check here, those days happen and that is fine and dandy but just not often.
We eat a fair amount of foods in this house and I'm always trying to shake things up and make something different. I really don't like getting into a rut where I make the same thing over and over again. I like to consider myself a pretty good cook, my husband says I am so it must be true. :)
I know from my personal experience when we cut the processed junk the dyes the excessive sugar my kids are happier. We don't do much junk for the kids. Three is the odd time that we have treats but as a general we don't. I think complete denial will just cause problems just like free range would. Indulgence seems to be a bit of a human condition.
My kids know that when we are at a party they need to pick the healthy snack first and then they can have treats. I really try to pretend that I am the mom who has the kids who always make healthy choices, but once again lets reality check. They are kids, they see other kids eating yummy treats and the treats taste good, really good. I know I want all the yummy goodness I can't expect my children to always resist but hey I teach them to make choices and you are responsible for your choices. If you gorge when mommy's back is turned and you feel sick later, that is a natural consequence.
Oh well we just keep trying but I do my best. Keep healthy options open and hide the candy, yes even from myself.

Pregnancy and Breastfeeding with ViSalus
As a mom I understand the weight issues. I had babies my body changed, boy did it ever change. I have had friends who lost weight easily, actually i have had friends that lost weight so quickly they actaully had trouble keeping on weight. A small part of me hated those people. I tried to go to the gym but I never felt comfortable with the gym daycares. I had a list of excuses. There were times I would go and try for a bit but the results were never as quick as I wanted. Heck they were never even noticeable for me. It drove me crazy. I know one of my biggest issues was sugar. Sugar is my evil little friend, I love sugar in many forms, most particularly CHOCOLATE!!!
When I first came across the Body by Vi Challenge, I was a major skeptic. It seemed way to good to be true. Two shakes a day and I can lose weight? It sounded like a pipe dream or one of those miracle things that as soon as you stop all the weight piles back on, you know the ones I'm talking about. I ignored it and went along my merry way of thinking I could lose weight. Well it came back again and again to me, and from different sources. So I decided to have deeper look into the product and see what all the fuss was about.
Major things for me was making sure it was okay for pregnancy and breastfeeding. I'm still currently nursing two of my children so I can't take something the is suggested against for breastfeeding. I scoured the internet for a few days looking at everything I could find about the products, looking at the FAQ's, different blog post just about everything I could get my hands on!
What I found was you CAN take the shakes. They actually suggest you do. Now you do have to be smart with it. During pregnancy DO NOT try to lose weight ( baby is growing and weight will happen and should ) just use the shakes in addition to your healthy diet. It tastes so great you can use it as a dessert or a treat just change what you put into it. Mmmmm chocolate milk and peanut butter... doesn't that sounds great. Even with fruit it makes an awesome smoothie. I love almond milk and blueberries, one of my favourites. I could snack on that all day. While nursing it not suggested to try and lose weight until the baby is at least 4 month old. For me personally I wouldn't until your baby is eating solids which should be 6 months or older according to current recommendations. That way the baby isn't solely relying on your nutrition, you can still have the shakes though try not to dramatically reduce your calories cause you need them to produce milk. From what I have found it is recommended that you maintain a 1500- 1800 calorie count to keep your milk supply up.
Now for how safe is it. I looked at this website http://www.bodybyvishape.com/bodybyvi_safe_pregnancy_breastfeeding_nutrition/
it is really up to you to make your descisions
It lays things out pretty good. most of my take away from everything I read was stay away from the Vi Slim and Vi Trim. that is the fat burning metabolism and the appetite reducer. Those are the things you don't want to risk that going through to your baby. Keep your calories up ( to modest amounts ~ 1500/day) and eat right. If you have questions about that you can ask a nutritionist for more info. In general keep your carbs down and veggies and protein high. For me it was a shift of mind where you split you plate in half half in veggie quarter is protein and the other could be a starch. I don't believe in eliminating a food group but I believe in being smart in your choices and using whole grain, non GMO food and really just think about what you are putting into your body. Think how far this food has traveled to get into your body? Try for local cheaper option. They are there you just need to look.
With the vitamins because they are chelated they absorb really quickly and really well so that your body can use them Omegas are great. there is mixed stuff about the anti ageing and energy it is suggested that you consult your doctor to maybe see how they feel about them. Though your doctor may not know about them so bring them the info. And the antioxidant has some mixed reviews as well same goes for the doctor thing.
Oh and they are totally good for children too! My boys love the shakes. Every single time the blender goes I have little ones begging for some too! ** Not recommended for children as a meal supplement, an addition too and only in small quantities**
The Neruo and Pro seem to be pretty good and are excellent alternative to the mainstream energy drinks you get in the store. I love the neuro helps me wake up and get going. I have not ever been a big coffee drinker so I just usually struggled on long days but no more struggling. I love this because when I'm struggling my patience is lower which is never good when you have little ones. Now with pregnancy there is a lot of mixed reviews with the amount of caffeine a pregnant women can have, I would consult your care provider and discuss before going on any products. It is always better to err on the side of caution.
Now if you are still looking to sign up you can do so here. It's exploding and it can help you get started. on a journey. Remember that this is a lifestyle change, it's not just about drinking "magic" shakes. get a plan and follow it this is a tool!!
